
Anthony David Gonzalez was born on 27 February 1976 in Torrance, California. He was raised in southern California and was a student at Huntington Beach High School, where he was a star player on the football and basketball teams. Gonzalez was a star in both games at the University of California. He led the football team to the 1996 Aloha Bowl. Here, he tied the school's bowl record with nine receptions. Gonzalez later led the basketball team to Sweet 16 in the NCAA basketball tournament a few weeks later. After graduation from high school Gonzalez was selected in the 1997 NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Gonzalez as the 13th overall selection. Gonzalez was a player for the Chiefs from 1997 until 2008. Gonzalez was traded to the Atlanta Falcons. Beginning in his second year in the NFL the team never managed to catch less than 59 of them in one season.
